Fair Work Commission workload prompts changes

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) is making changes to its practices in response to a significant increase in its workload over recent years.

The increase has coincided with other factors, including more self-represented applicants, budget constraints, resourcing challenges and the use of generative AI.

The changes include early intervention in disputes, staff conferencing, expansion of the MyFWC portal, development of an agreement checklist, consideration of an AI-assisted helpline, and refining of the search platform.

The FWC expects that by the end of the financial year, its total workload will have increased by more than 70 per cent in three years, which is unsustainable in its current operating environment.
