Audit finds Corrective Services reintegration plans not effective

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) does not effectively plan for and facilitate the rehabilitation and reintegration of its prisoners, an audit has found.

The Queensland Audit Office report Rehabilitating and reintegrating prisoners, which was tabled in Parliament yesterday, shows almost half of released prisoners reoffend and return to custody within two years.

It also shows the number of prisoners in Queensland’s correctional centres has increased by 54 per cent from 7,318 in June 2015 to 11,278 in June 2025.

It recommend that QCS strengthens its planning and oversight of prisoner rehabilitation and rehabilitation; improves case management; strengthens data governance; and improves its reintegration services.
