Selden Society lecture examines former PM

The Honourable Justice James Edelman of the High Court of Australia will deliver the second Selden Society lecture of 2024 on Robert Menzies at the bar on Thursday.

The Supreme Court Library Queensland is hosting the lecture on 30 May at 5.30pm at the Banco Court, Level 3, 415 George Street, Brisbane.

Justice Edelman was appointed to the High Court of Australia in 2017. He is a former judge of the Federal Court of Australia, the Supreme Court of Western Australia, barrister, and a Fellow of Keble College, and Professor of the Law of Obligations at the University of Oxford.

Sir Robert Menzies is quoted as saying politics was his greatest duty but the law remained his first love. Justice Edelman will consider the impact Menzies had on the law as an author, barrister, Victorian Attorney-General, Federal Attorney General and Prime Minister.

There will be refreshments in the Portrait Gallery after the lecture.
