QLRC will visit Mount Isa as part of review

Queensland Law Reform Commission Chair (QLRC) Fleur Kingham will be in Mount Isa on Monday, 19 August, to hear from stakeholders about the mining lease objections review.

The Chair will be joined by an Australian Law Reform Commission representative at the Mount Isa Neighbourhood Centre from 12.30pm-2pm to introduce the review of the native title future acts regime.

The QLRC is visiting Mount Isa as part of ongoing consultation and it reviews the processes for deciding applications for mining leases and associated environmental authorities.

The final report and recommendations are due to be provided to the government by 30 June 2025.

The QLRC has released two consultation papers, Reimagining decision-making processes for Queensland mining and Valuing the perspectives of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

It is currently accepting submissions, convening workshops and information sessions and meeting with stakeholders and community about the consultation proposals and questions.

Submissions are due 13 September 2024 and can be made through an online form.
