Central Queensland Law Association (CQLA) celebrated the profession and community at its 65th annual conference last week.
The event in Rockhampton over Friday and Saturday included presentations, discussions, a profession dinner and an exclusive Chef’s Table at the Capricorn Food & Wine Festival.
The conference was opened by Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) Judge Anne Demack, and speakers included FCFCOA Justice Michael Baumann, Dr John de Groot, Steven Deaves KC, FCFCOA Senior Judicial Registrar Clare McCormack and Rockhampton Magistrate Cameron Press.
The Justice Peter Dutney Memorial Award for outstanding lawyer went to Myles Heath of South Geldard Lawyers (Keep an eye on Proctor for a profile on Myles).
CQLA President Robert Rooney said the turnout of 100 delegates “reflected the profession’s keen interest and commitment to ongoing professional development and collegiality in the region”.
“The support shown by the local profession to the CQLA was greatly appreciated,” Robert said.
“They highlighted the importance of these events in fostering collegiality within the profession, noting that such unity strengthens both the profession and the services provided to clients across Central Queensland.
“The association has continued its long-standing tradition of bringing together legal professionals in the region, ensuring a vibrant and collaborative legal community for years to come.”
