The Women Lawyers Association of Queensland (WLAQ) will again boost the careers of legal women via its annual grants program named after a pioneer.
Applications are now open for the Beryl Donkin Memorial Scholarship Fund, which this year will offer grants of up to $8000 for education or professional development.
Beryl was a pioneer of the profession, despite not being a lawyer. She was a Queensland Law Society administrator for more than 40 years, having taken on an immense workload as the Society’s only employee in 1941. Her service was recognised in 1975 with an OBE.
The fund was launched by WLAQ in 1991, to help lawyers or law students who are WLAQ members. The grants can be used to help pay for courses run by approved educational providers.
First-round applications close on 18 October 2024, and recipients will be notified by 15 November 2024. Apply here.
