The relevance of human rights to the coronial function will be discussed at a free webinar this week.
The Human Rights Law Association will present Human Rights in the Coroners Court on Wednesday, 12 February. The panel of speakers will be:
- Coroners Simon McGregor and Megan Fairweather;
- Caxton Legal Centre’s Director of Coronial and Custodial Justice Practice Klaire Coles;
- Townsville Community Law Principal Solicitor and QLS Elder Law Committee member Bill Mitchell; and
- Brisbane barrister Paula Morreau KC
Townsville Principal Solicitor Bill Mitchell.
The session will look at the impact of human rights statutes in Queensland in the Coroners Court; the potential scope of matters to be investigated at inquests; findings that might be made about the actions of public entities; and the framing of preventative recommendations.
