North Queensland practitioners will have opportunities to give feedback to the Queensland Law Reform Commission (QLRC) on the consultation paper, Equality and integrity: Reforming criminal defences in Queensland, next week.
The QLRC will hold meetings, public information sessions and workshops across the state over coming weeks and months as it seeks input on issues identified in preliminary research.
The consultation team is hitting the road with the first stop in Cairns on Monday, 17 March, starting with a public information session from 1-3pm and a legal stakeholders roundtable from 3-5pm. Both will be held at Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, Lake Street.
Practitioners can register for the roundtable.
Townsville is the next stop on Thursday, 20 March, with public information session from 1-3pm at Co Habitat Co Working Space Conference Room, South Townsville. The roundtable will follow at 3pm.
If practitioners cannot make these dates and locations, and would like to discuss the review further, or arrange a private meeting, email qlrc-criminaldefence@justice.qld.gov.au.
The QLRC also welcomes written submissions which are due by 20 April 2025.
