From 30 June 2025, legal practitioners will be able to lodge civil claims in the Brisbane Supreme Court electronically via the Queensland Courts and Tribunals Online Services Portal (OSP).
This is part of Queensland Courts and Tribunals’ commitment to advancing digital technologies and working towards a paper-lite future.
Legal practitioners will be able to prepare and lodge a Form 2 Claim and subsequent documents via the OSP, including documents for civil claim matters which started before 30 June 2025.
eLodgement capability for all civil originating processes and appeals state-wide, for all court users, will follow in 2026 as part of the new civil case management system.
What this means for legal practitioners
- Legal practitioners lodging a civil claim in the Brisbane Supreme Court will have the option to electronically lodge through the OSP or continue to lodge in person over the counter of via post from 30 June 2025.
- After lodging electronically, you will receive an email confirming lodgement of your material with a temporary reference number. You will also have the ability to view your lodged materials via the Supreme Court Claims dashboard on the OSP.
- Legal practitioners must have a Digital Identity to log into the OSP.
Filing timeframes
- Consistent with the UCPR, electronically lodged documents should not be considered ‘Filed’ until such time as the registrar records the date of filing on the document and applies the seal of the court. Upon processing, the registry will return the filed documents via email to the lodging party.
- The registry will make every effort to file a lodged document within 24 hours or by the close of the next business day. Any non-compliance with UCPR will impact turnaround times.
- At this stage, any urgent matters lodged via the OSP must be followed up with a phone call. If there is some urgency attached to a lodgement and practitioners require same day turnaround for filing and are within registry business hours (i.e. Monday to Friday, between 8.30am to 4.30pm), they can submit their claim material electronically and phone the registry to make them aware of timeframes.
- Processes for after-hours filing remain unchanged.
- Documents lodged electronically after registry business hours will be filed the next business day.
