Bowen Courthouse starts temporary closure this week

The Bowen Courthouse building at 30 Williams Street will temporarily close for renovations from Friday, 26 June 2026 to 30 June 2027 inclusive, with the possibility of further extension.

The Acting Chief Magistrate has issued Practice Direction 6 of 2026 (Bowen Court closure and registry arrangements – 26 June 2026 to 30 June 2027) today.

This Practice Direction addresses arrangements for the closure and temporary relocation of the Bowen Magistrates Court and registry.

The Bowen Magistrates Court and registry will reopen at 8.30am on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, at temporary premises located at 50 Livingstone Street, Bowen.

The heritage-listed Bowen Courthouse’s $12.5 million restoration was announced last year.

Repairs to the 145-year-old building will include floors, walls, stairs, verandas and ceilings. The roof, gutters, downpipes, and stormwater systems will be replaced.

The Atherton Courthouse building at 81 Main Street is also temporarily closed for renovations until 31 December 2026. It is currently operating at Destiny Church, Loader Street.

The Toowoomba Courthouse upgrade was completed last week.
