Government responds to Fairness in Franchising report

The Australian Government has released its response to the March 2019 Fairness in Franchising report.

The response says that the Government will make various amendments to the Franchising Code, including amendments intended to strengthen dispute resolution options, improve disclosure and transparency, double penalties for breaches of the Franchising Code, and prohibit franchisors unilaterally imposing significant capital expenditure on franchisees. No date is given for the introduction of the amendments.

The response also sets out proposed government action separate to amendment of the Franchising Code and summarises the actions that have already been taken since the Fairness in Franchising report was released.

More information, including the full response and the Fairness in Franchising report, is available at industry.gov.au.
