The Australian Taxation Office has announced changes to the way in which practitioners are able to access client information.
The changes, implemented from 22 August, follow an increase in requests for copies of tax documents (COTD) through a variety of channels, including non-ATO approved channels.
It says this has resulted in a less-than-ideal client service, with unnecessary delays and backlogs that extend across many months.
The changes include a new automated service called COREngine, which allows registered practitioners to request individual client income tax returns, notices of assessments and payment summaries or income statements, for the 2010 income year onwards.
To request documents relating to the 1997 to 2009 income years, practitioners will need to use a new COTD request form (NAT 75438). See Copies of tax documents request.
