Notice is hereby given to all full members of Queensland Law Society Incorporated (QLS) that a vacancy arose on 28 November 2025 for the position of one (1) ordinary QLS Council member for 2026-27.
Pursuant to rule 45 of the Legal Profession (Society) Rules 2007 (the Rules), Council has appointed 5 December 2025 the date for the Notice of the Vacancy.
Rule 45 invites QLS full members to provide an expression of interest to the secretary if they wish to apply for the role of Councillor on QLS Council.
Rule 44 sets out that the person appointed by Council fills the vacancy for the residue of the term of office of the current council at the time of his or her appointment. That term begins 1 January 2026 and is until 31 December 2027. The position of ordinary member of Council is a non-remunerated position. It is requested that candidates who are planning to apply carefully review the Councillor role description and the time commitments. Of note, the successful candidate will be invited to attend the QLS Council Induction on 6 and 7 February 2026.
Full members are welcome to submit their Expression of Interest (EOI) for the QLS Councillor vacancy by one of three ways:
- By Online submission: Expressions of Interest (EOI) Form Submission – QLS Councillor Vacancy 2026-27 – please follow the instructions set out in the form; OR
- By Email: The Secretary: submissions@qls.com.au; OR
- By Post: The Secretary, Queensland Law Society, GPO Box 1785, Brisbane QLD.
Please note – for full members wishing to Email or Post their EOI, please ensure the inclusion of the following:
- Your full name;
- Your QLS full member number;
- Your admission date;
- Your employment contact details;
- Confirmation that none of the criteria set out in rule 44(2) of the Legal Profession (Society) Rules 2007 apply; and
- A brief covering letter / CV (of no more than four pages in total) addressing the Councillor role description and highlighting:
- your area/s of practice;
- involvement with the QLS; and
- legal and board experience.
Full members have until 4pm AEST Thursday 18 December 2025 (the due date) to submit their EOI to the Secretary.
Council will then consider the EOIs received by the due date and will make the relevant determinations in progressing an appointment to Council.
