Six new board members have been appointed to a modernised Racing Queensland Board to oversee industry reforms, including the Managing Partner of wilson/ryan/grosse Lawyers.
The appointees, including new Chairperson Matthew McGrath, have a wealth of racing industry experience and business acumen including law, financial services and public relations.
Townsville-based lawyer and racehorse shareholder Michelle Morton has been appointed as the director to champion regional and country racing.
Ms Morton has been Managing Partner at wilson/ryan/grose for more than 20 years. She is a passionate believer that racing is integral to the fabric of regional and rural Queensland towns and their economies.
Ms Morton is a new Townsville-based Board Member. She is an Accredited Specialist in both Workplace Relations and Personal Injury law.
Additional appointees are Gary Cunningham, the Honourable Jane Prentice and Sally Branson. Graham Quirk, Jodie Jones and Gary Heath will continue on the board as the thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing industry members.
Minister for Sport and Racing Tim Mander said the members possessed the appropriate balance of experience to guide the industry.
“I am thrilled with the make-up of the Racing Queensland Board, and I am confident they will deliver reforms that will signal a new era for the industry,” Mr Mander said.
